Hub Services

We created our programs and services with our community in mind. Your goals are our goals, and we will work together to achieve them.

Wellbeing

Our community members’ health and wellbeing are our top priorities. At The Opportunity Hub, we believe that a strong community is a healthy community. Our wellbeing programs, including health, wellness, counseling, and social services, drive positive change and create a more united and resilient community.

  • The Opportunity Hub offers individual and group counseling for youth and families with our onsite clinical counselor. We offer support for young people and families overcoming barriers, reaching goals, and addressing trauma, and provide referrals to local partner organizations for longer-term care. Weekly age-specific support groups are built into the program schedule and follow themes like bereavement, identity, and more. We also hold regularly scheduled workshops for parents and guardians to strengthen their skills and offer tools to achieve their goals.

  • We provide health and wellness programs for youth, adults, and seniors, including group fitness classes, cooking workshops, health screenings, and walking groups. We aim to provide community members with access to services and resources that support a healthy body and mind. Enhanced by the wellness-centered grounds and facilities at Spring Creek Towers, our health and wellness programming benefits all residents.

  • The Opportunity Hub assists residents with being screened for and applying for benefits including SNAP, housing programs, SSI, tax prep, legal support, and health insurance. We strive to ensure that each household is receiving any and all financial support that they may be eligible for. Outreach activities and special events can ensure that there are many opportunities for residents to engage in screening throughout the year. We also offer renewal of benefits and case management support to minimize the amount of travel needed, especially for seniors.

Youth Development
& Education

The Opportunity Hub supports our younger generations of community members from kindergarten through young adulthood. We offer enrichment opportunities, recreational activities, academic support and community building in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Our services guide individuals toward their aspirations and goals. With The Opportunity Hub by your side, the sky's the limit.

  • The Opportunity Hub provides out-of-school time enrichment programming working in collaboration with Public School 346 and Spring Creek Community Corporation focused on early literacy, STEAM and social-emotional learning. Partner programs include an introduction to financial literacy concepts for kindergarten through fifth graders called Money Matters, an opportunity to attend a musical theater performance and participate in an original production developed for PS 346 with the Brooklyn Children’s Theater, and more.

  • Teen Central is an afterschool program for 13 through 18-year-olds that offers access to open gym time, a computer lab, and structured activities like culinary lessons, a basketball team that participates in local tournaments, and entrepreneurship and digital literacy workshops. The Young Adult Program is a partnership with the Department of Public Safety, providing recreation, peer mentorship, and community connection for young people ages 18-24. Beyond creating a community in which to share common interests with peers, these programs offer a safe space to gather as well as access to services like job readiness, college retention, and counseling.

  • The Opportunity Hub is home to the Learning Garden, a partnership with East New York Farms that offers young people hands-on lessons about biodiversity, plant life cycles, healthy eating, and food justice, as well as access to fresh produce. Produce grown on-site is used in our culinary arts programs, provided for free to participants and their families, and sold at local farmers’ markets. Throughout the school year, the Learning Garden engages kindergarteners through eighth graders attending PS 346, IS 364, and Frederick Douglass Academy VIII. Over the summer, the Learning Garden welcomes summer camp participants from all onsite camps, adult volunteers, and teen farmers.

Future-Focused Growth

We are dedicated to helping our community members develop into the people they want to be. Our future-focused, comprehensive programming is thoughtfully designed for older teenagers, young adults and adults with an eye on higher education or career development. We offer college prep, financial literacy, economic mobility resources and professional growth opportunities to empower our community and prepare them for their next steps.

  • In partnership with local banks and community partners, The Opportunity Hub offers workshops and referrals for residents to develop their financial literacy skills, help residents build credit, and provide one on one support to address debt. The Opportunity Hub also provides workshops for children and youth to prepare them for future financial decision-making.

  • Through one on one employment counseling and workshops, The Opportunity Hub offers job seekers assistance with job readiness, job search assistance, and referrals to certification and credentialing programs. We offer enrollment sessions with training partners and provide referrals and connections to external training and certification providers. We also host a series of virtual workshops for parents and guardians of PS 346 students to support their career development goals.

  • The Opportunity Hub is committed to working with young people to create a post-secondary plan, including preparation for higher education and career and technical school exploration. We provide in-depth support at each phase of the college and career process. We work closely with students and their parents or guardians as they consider the benefits and financial commitment necessary to pursue a college degree, enter the workforce, or enroll in a training program.
